A Three-Hour Interactive Online Learning Experience for School and District Leaders
Collective teacher efficacy—the shared belief among educators that, together, they can positively influence student outcomes—is associated with a range of important outcomes for students, teachers, and schools. But collective efficacy isn’t something leaders can mandate, nor does it develop simply by asking teachers to collaborate.
So what can school leaders do to foster it?
In this interactive online session, Dr. Jenni Donohoo will translate the research on collective teacher efficacy into practical leadership actions. Participants will examine how collective efficacy develops, why it matters, and the conditions associated with stronger collective efficacy beliefs in schools.
Throughout the session, participants will connect the research to their own contexts. They will examine the sources that shape efficacy beliefs, assess the enabling conditions currently present in their schools or districts, and identify practical ways to strengthen those conditions.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of what leaders can—and cannot—do to foster collective teacher efficacy and concrete ideas they can begin applying in their own settings.
Success Criteria
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Define collective teacher efficacy and describe the positive consequences associated with stronger collective efficacy beliefs.
• Explain the sources of efficacy information that influence a team’s beliefs about its ability to positively impact student outcomes.
• Assess the enabling conditions within their own schools or districts and identify practical ways to strengthen those conditions.
Participants will receive a workbook to support reflection and application during the session, as well as a copy of the presentation slides for future reference.
